ABOUT THE EVENT
Our second program will highlight pianist, Peter Toth. He is giving his solo recital debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City in just under two months!
Peter Toth (Hungary/USA), praised for his "artistic sensitivity and commanding virtuosity” (Peninsula Reviews), is one of the most recognized pianists of his generation. Born in 1983, he has concertized in most countries in Europe and across Asia, the Americas, and Australia. As a competitor, Mr. Toth has won top prizes at numerous piano competitions, such as the American Paderewski Piano Competition (2013), the Franz Liszt International Piano and Voice Competition in Los Angeles (2010), and the Franz Liszt International Piano Competitions in Budapest (2001) and Weimar (2000). His first released CD recording won the Grand Prize of the Hungarian Liszt Society (2006). Mr. Toth is a regular guest artist at various piano festivals, such as the Festival de Musique au Château d’ Excideuil and the Festival Musique en Vallée du Tarn in France. Mr. Toth has lived in the United States since 2009.
Myung Hwang Park (France/South Korea), both pianist and composer-in-residence, studied Composition Theory and Film Scoring at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, one of the top programs in the world, while being laureate of scholarships from the Tarazzi Foundation and Leg Jabès Foundation Composer. He is one of the most ingenious young composers of our time.
Andrew J. Yang (USA/Iceland) deemed "a prodigy, [running] the emotional gamut from brooding introspection to manic exuberance" (The San Francisco Examiner), has lived in Patreksfjörður for the last couple years where he teaches at Tónlistarskóla Vesturbyggðar. Most recently, he won the top prize at the International FLAME Piano Competition in Paris, France, and received the "White Rose" Medal of Honor from the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, for musical excellence.
Part 1: Cine Concert featuring original music composed by our composer-in-residence, Myung Hwang Park, on film by Georges Méliès: The Eclipse, or the Courtship of the Sun and Moon. Yang performs solo works by Bach-Marcello, Brahms, and Chopin.
Part 2: Peter Toth performs an exciting all-Liszt program: La Chapelle de Guillaume Tell, Waldesrauschen, Ballade No. 2 in B Minor, Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6 in D-flat Major.
